Hi I’m interested in any information on a Joseph C Chamney (Born South County Dublin 1870)Co. Dublin who married an Elizabeth Newman (not certain of this surname born in Wicklow 1876) circa 1899 and they had four children. Maria,Elizabeth, Edward (Emigrated Australia) and Alice. Anyone see any similarities with their own families. Regards Brendan

The Chamney family possibly came from Lancashire, around the Cartmel area as there was a large concentration of Chamney families there. Chamneys appeared in the early registers of Ulverston parish circa 1547. Entries for a Christopher Chamney’s family appeared in the St Peter’s Church of Ireland, Drogheda, Co Louth register from Apr 1654 to Apr 1659 and then the family disappeared. I’m still trying to connect our family (Murray belongs to my branch) to that of Lyle’s who lived north of our Chamneys in Wicklow. Cheers Deb Flanagan

The Chamneys came over to Ireland from Lancashire (County Louth) England in the 1600′s. My family tree stems from Wicklow county, south of Dublin…so we may be related. There is another family reunion slated for the summer of 2010. Murray Chamney – King City ON

@Ann M – The family name is Irish, with it’s origin somewhere south-west of Dublin. There was a world-wide reunion held there in 1984, but we unfortunately could not attend as my brother was getting married that weekend Cheers! Lyle
